Hydrangea quercifolia 'Burgundy'

Hydrangea quercifolia 'Burgundy'

I grow this variety for the fall color and not the flowers but it is blooming better than any of my other oakleaf hydrangeas. They're kind of like the H. macrophylla and H. serrata here, the plants will grow fine but flower buds are not reliably hardy. We had a hard winter again that killed all the stems on my 'Alice' oakleaf that stuck up above the snow.
