Gardenbargains.com Is anybody else having a problem with this company based in Peterborough.
I placed an order for bedding plants in April, with delivery 10-14 days or earlier.
i started to email them on 17th MAy asking to confirm delivery, a standard email was sent in reply saying they will contact me soon. I made a phone call on 20th May to realise the call centre was in India and the man could only read off the computer screen, but he promised somebody would call me from the head office in Peterborough. Guess what no call!. I then received an email thanking me for my order with delivery 7-10 working days which works out about 5/6th June. I called them again this time a lady in India and she just read off the computer screen saying there was nothing else she could do. Again I asked for a phone call from the head office I am still waiting for a call.
I have tried to get a uk phone number from them without any luck. The way they are carrying on the summer will be over before I get my plants.
Can anybody help?
I have also ordered from Suttons and best4plants and both were very good.
In the future I’ll grow my own and avoid this company, perhaps you would all like to join me.

Channell 41 on Freeview have been doing a lot of shows with gardenbargains as part of Ideal Extra the shopping channell. I'ts usually on from about 1.00pm till 6.00pm. I've been tempted to order but the P&P put me off. If you check it out there is a phone number for ordering, but I think calls are charged at 10p a minute. Still, it might be better to speak to someone in their ordering department rather than someone in India! Good Luck Kfunster!

Just been having a look at Ideal World (as above). There is only one phone number for whatever item is ordered. You could phone I suppose and ask for a contact number for Gardenbargains. Ideal World's email address is www.idealworld.tv. Hope you manage to sort it out. Sorry if this wasn't much help.

update : ( no more plants yet. Had a phone call from the indian call centre applogising for the delay, apparently they had no stock! bedding plants??? I tolthem they shouldn't have sold them. They have promised to replace the fucshias that had suffered in transit. I explained that summer will be over soon and these plants should be flowering now and that they were spoiling enjoyment I'll keep on at them.
the phone number that I was given in this blog unfortunately they couldn't help me.

4 Jun, 2010

Still no plants, another 4 emails later and I have called INDIA again, for them to quote 7 days delivery. ARRRG but I felt a bit better after having a right rant on the phone grrrrrrrrr.

I know just how you feel! I too order from the internet, not the same company but ended up with 40 begonia corms at the end of may. cant see how they are expected to flower before the winter!

13 Jun, 2010

I have sent daily emails since my last entry with no joy so I phoned INDIA again today and asked them to confirm that I will have delivery this Friday as promised last Friday, to be told they are lost in transit and it would be another 10-12 days from today as all they could do is reput the order through the system.
After some haggling they offered me £5 compensation - joke I asked them not to insult me, they then doubled it to £10 and a £10 voucher for future use. I refused both, I'll give them until Friday to deliver and then I'll cancel the order and spend alot more money getting geraniums, fuschias etc beofre the summer is over : - (
PLEASE NEVER EVER ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY even thou they do offer good prices.

I have now written a strong letter of complaint to the head office in Peterborough (which I got from companies house). Gardenbargains.com is the trade name of the good life ltd. I shall wait results of that, in the mean time I shall continue to email, just for the sheer hell of it.

Hi there - just come across your blog here about Gardenbargains.com.
Tell me about them....eeek!! What a shower and very difficult to track down.
In Jan 2009 I gave them a big order for shrubs and trees which were going to be special birthday presents etc. They were supposed to arrive within 10 days....well when the first two eventually arrived weeks later and too late in fact for the birthdays - the lemon and an orange trees were smashed to bits and more dead than alive. I wrote an e-mail immediately with confirmatory pics. of the damage.
The next day some dendrobium orchid plants arrived in a similar state. This time I phoned and I eventually made contact and happily it was not an Indian call centre...but it still look me many weeks - until June that year to get my money back - having canceled the rest of my order - which in total was well over £100
So - I agree...NEVER EVER use that company ...and here are the contact numbers I used....no idea if they are still of any use!

I am having a nightmare with this company! Emailed and filled in their online query form, only standard "we will reply shortly" email recieved.

Placed £32 order over 3 weeks ago, called customer service number today. The operative clearly was reading a script and could not engage in an actual conversation. Firstly asked me to wait a further 7-10days, when I said I was not going to do that and I wanted to know exact dispatch date was yold I ad not paid in full. At first he said I had only paid £12 then said I'd only paid £27, and owed £5 before delivery sent.

It was apparent the operative was not listening to me and simply giving standard replies, so I asked for supervisor. Sorry, no supervisor available yet I could hear him being coached as to what reply to give! I asked to cancel order, told I couldnt do that because order complete ( I did question how it can be complete if they say I haven't paid!). I asked for complaints department, told can't get that as I owe £5!!!!

I tried the number listed by Alziehmer but they must have realised people know it as going trough to same call centre.

I have confirmation email stating I have paid! Not really sure on what to do next otehr than find every review website I can to stop others dealing with this company!

I have now emailed Ideal World as well, after all I used Garden Bargains after seeing them on their tv channel.

Oh Susan 14...I am so sorry to hear you saga ....having been there done that and got the flaming phone bill to prove it! I was getting to the stage of seriously considering writing to our "Sunday Post" column called "Raw Deal" ....they are great at sorting out this sort of nonsense....you can write to them at ... rawdeal@sundaypost.com ....and believe me they get results and PDQ as well!! Worth a try...and of course there is always dear Anne Robinson and her BBC1 prog Watchdog...she would really sort them out!!

I wonder if we can get a general warning posted on this web site to o stop us fellow gardeners being caught out? Good luck everybody with your claims.
Cheers

Happily the eventually sent me a refund ......but it took a LOT of phoning and repeated emailing with pics and writing and sending of photos to prove my case.
I must have worn them down ...but it did take time and perseverance....so don't give up Susan14 Next time you make contact - threaten them with Watchdog etc....I did...well I actually threatened them with the Scottish Sunday Post...worth a try!

Fed up w this company also. Plants arrived in dreadful state and nearly all died apart from two of the fruit trees I ordered. Was conned into joining their club with assurance that all plants would be replaced. Waited and waited contacted this weekend to be told I had been contacted by another company handling membership in their name and if I wanted replacement plants would have to pay p&p - NOT ON!

I also have had problems with a mini-orchard of fruit trees from GB. The trees are of poor quality and one of them is obviously not doing well, on contacting GB about I was told it was my fault for not watering them properly, which is rubbish, of course they were watered, they refused to replace it under their so called "lifetime guarantee" but I don't think I would want another of their sub-standard products anyway, take my advice and buy your plants at a garden center where you can see the quality for yourself and most off them have guarantees for their plants which they will happily honor, unlike Garden Bargains.

just in case the above leaves anyone in any doubt about the risks of dealing with gardenbargains, herewith a summary of my communications with them since they took £40 from my card for christmas presents that never arrived:

The trading standards people have asked me to copy them on our correspondence. confirm by return that you have credited the £40 as requested many times.

this sequence of communications, starting with you confirmation of my order and going on to multiple requests for refund in the abense of that order will crucify your company if broadcast. i was on the phone to you again this morning - again hitting that transparently constructed 'you are currently SECOND in the queue. your call is important to us. please hold on'. if you had that much interest in our calls, you would not antagonise the buying public by using a 10p per minute number. whichever director thought of that stunt either needs relieving of his duties or is running a scam to access customer funds. my required rebate is now £37.17 due to more waiting on your iniquitous number. you know which card number to credit it to.

ring me on 07986 288580 - i won't insult you by levying 10p per minute.

it is now over a month since i wrote the last appended email to you. when i tried phoning you i was left hanging on for ten minutes at 10p per minute and only advanced from third to second in the queue.
