Do you know, When we were kids there used to be thousands of them gathering before they set off south for their hols. We never get more than a doz. or so now days.
Mind you I don't miss what used to happen when they flew overhead. :~((

Ian if you wont some of them i can send you loads of them in winter.

Always feel sorry for starlings as many people look upon them as pests, but they have lovely patterned feathers and are quite cheeky little characters, I was at a open market last week and they were dodging around on the ground looking for food, its a wonder they dont crushed under foot.

Funny you saying that, in winter when there are loads in my garden and they make sutch a noise, and always fighting for the same bit of food, but about march there is not as many, and at first its really quite and i have to admit i do miss till i get use to it.

As you say, you always know when the starlings are there because you hear them before you see them ! I love to watch them having a bath. They must be the cleanest birds around because they're always having a dip ! :)
