Schizolobium parahybum - Brazilian Fern Tree Flowers

Schizolobium parahybum - Brazilian Fern Tree Flowers (Schizolobium parahybum - Brazilian Fern Tree)

The Brazilian Fern trees are blooming late this year due to our unusually cool spring and early summer. This is one of the fastest growing trees around. Photo taken at Quail Botanical Gardens on July 6, 2010.

Mushybanna:

This tree has leaves, which look like fronds. When young this tree typically grows 10+ feet / 3+ meters a year. It can grow to more than 120 feet/ 37 meters tall with buttresses in the tropics. Here they usually top out at 60 feet/ 18 meters.

I'll post a photo of a larger tree today.
