Toadflax...

Almost has the look of a snapdragon, Katarina. Is this a wildflower? or is it grown in the garden? It's wonderful how so many wildflowers have medicinal properties. My OH & I went for a drive down a rough track towards a wide river not far from us yesterday .....we were checking the river out to see if it would be a suitable place to take our puppy to in the future, for a splash about ....golden retrievers are a water dog & love swimming. The banks were covered in wild lupins, which are not visible from the bridge. They were yellow. We have wild lupins covering the hills not far away, & those are all pink.

Hi Dwyllis, yes this was wildflower, which grows among stones from which there is built a bank of the Danube river (partly a dam). It must have benn beautiful view. Lupins as wild flowers grow also here, but in the mountains, as they love more humid air. Unfortunately, to pick up herbs is not as safe as before. You have to take care, especially if the place is exposed to human activities. Long time ago I had a patient who was chemical engineer. I recommended her the herb, she then picked one in the hills above her house, but for fun let it analysed. It was contaminated with lead, so she couldn´use it. Yes, everything is global, even pollution. The Tatra mountains have been reservation for years and still have some areas untouched. It has a big population of bears, which are roaming a large areas. Once there was found dead bear. Due to reservation rules he is a precious animal and so was transported to vet for autopsy and chemical analyses. His meat was contamined with pesticides. So...this herb I just enjoyed by eye.

Tragic when beautiful rural areas become contaminated by the very creatures who are supposed to care .....us. When I lived in England for a number of years, I spent the last few years living in a lovely Conservation area, & it was wonderful to sit quietly in our bedroom upstairs & watch a small breed of deer creep very timidly into our garden.i loved my cottage garden, but was so entranced by this little deer, that i never minded when it dined on my flowers. Good thing your patient got the herb tested. Blue lupins growing wild on the hills. What a spectacular vision. When our hills are covered in wild pink lupins, I think they look quite breath-taking in their beauty.

Yes, it is very beautiful view:) Unfortunately, the pollution is global, we can be afflicted by what others do wrong in thousands of kilometres far away place.
Fukushima nuclear plant is so far of us, still we measured higher radioactivity in the air several days after the earthquake in Japan.That´s why I like so much philosophy of Indians according to which there is just one Mother Earth and we are her children:)))
I am very sceptic about movements which declares pharmaceutical industry to be one big killer and herbalists/homeopathists/reiki activists to be the only solution. There is generally a lack of global vision everywhere.
Long time ago I wished to be a doctor in mountains. Just because of those mornings and evenings :))
