He was as big as the palm of my hand, never seen one as big as this one! Must have been eating a lot of slugs and snails to get to this size. lol :O)

Great!! I knew they could get big, but I've never seen one that big either. I hope my little tiddly one survived his transportation. At least he didn't need to cross the road. I am convinced he was heading for the ponds at the top of the hill. He was going very determinedly towards the road. I took him over the road and dropped him off at the first water we found....a stream. He disappeared in to the growth, so hopefully he made it to his destination!

We had a Woodpecker in the garden this morning! I was so thrilled...it was up and down all the apple trees looking for breakfast! Perhaps I should put up some peanuts?

they love peanuts, was it a greater spotted woodpecker or a green woodpecker, the green ones like ants.

It was the one with the red cap Mum.

I have never seen one of the green woodpeckers, and only occasionally caught a glimpse of a greater spotted, but I quite often hear one. It's an amazing sound - hard to believe it's not produced by a machine, it's so fast!

I know! I totally agree! First time I heard one, I thought it was a machine too!
