Klahanie:

This is Bismarckia nobilis (Bismarck Palm). There's many here in San Diego. It's a very popular palm.

The difference between Bismarck palm and Mexican blue palm is that Bismarck palm fronds are much larger. The inflorescence on Brahea armata is much larger than Bismarck palm, it extends well beyond the fronds.

Here's Bismarckia nobilis:

Thank you Delonix1. I corrected my title.
I have posted another blue palm from another location.
Smaller one. Is that also Bismarckia nobilis?

How pretty, what a lovely tree.

Thank you Shirlwhirl for liking. I have seen few blue looking palms around. I do think that they are attractive.

Klahanie:

There's a lot of bluish-white palms which belong in the Brahea genus. Brahea 'Clara' is my favorite (It's gorgeous!). It is thought to be a natural hybrid between B. armata and B. brandegeei.

You have to be an expert to see all these differences.

Yes, you do. I've belonged to the International Palm Society (IPS) since 1984. I do know quite a bit about palms. However, even very young palms are very difficult to id even by expert botanist.

That's awesome. That's the super silver-almost white- you get in tropical climates.
I notice in California its much rarer to see them that colorful. I've seen a photo of them...but rare.
Seems like when you get them to the tropics...the color is restored to all of them-lol.

That tree realy stands out. I always admire it when we drive or walk by.

No Jade plants Klahanie? They should be in bloom. How about Bottle palms- Hyophorbe?
I was watching a Video on the Azores..never cold, never hot. There were some huge Dracaena marginata's. I thought at first they were Cordylines.

Wylie who posts here got me to look at Azorean botanical garden plants.
Another you might look for? Agave guiengola. Magnificent and with one cultivar that is about the same color as the Bismarckia palm. The Agave is of course a Mexican native..someplace.

Stan,

The silver-white Bismarckia form is very common in inland San Diego County where the sun is much hotter. I've seen them growing by the thousands in gigantic pots in Fallbrook along the sides of the 15 freeway. There's many large nurseries up there. It's amazing how common this palm has gotten over the last decade here.

I had one in 2009. Gophers killed it in about a week after planting it out a year later.
I got it at Lowes. I have not seen one for sale since...except a really struggling to stay alive one at the Dry Garden.
I should have asked Richard if he could have given me a deal.
North Oakland might too cool for young ones.

But,its getting warm here,we've had rains and snowpack...lol. If at first you don't succeed.....

I always thought Bismarckia nobilis would be a very good palm for most of the Bay Area. They're pretty tough even if they get a little damage they can grow pretty fast once established. The ones you've posted look very good. I was really impressed with them. All I know if you want Bismarckia for a good price come to the nurseries up in Northern San Diego County. You can sometimes get 15 gallon container big trees for 35 - $45.00. This wasn't the case many years ago, of course. I think it's because they have been mass-planted at nurseries (field-grown) and in pots. The only major issue with growing Bismarckia is that they demand a lot of room.
