Is this related to the banana tree? The leaves look similar. Can't wai to see the flower :)

Yes they are related to the banana tree, and have some of the same characteristics. I've seen pictures of these flowers and they are neat. :) The guy I got this one from said that the canes have to live at least a year before they will flower.

This one is still a baby. So it won't bloom for a while.
I have never seen green ants. How big are they? We get "fire" red ants, black sugar ants and some type of large red ant here. The sugar ants are commonly found on flowering plants, but they don't bite.
