Any advice for a 2yr old Soulangeana Magnolia tree for overwintering ? Last year I covered it with a large fleece bag and pegged it down into the earth. Did I do right or should I do something differently? I really want to do the best I can, as I have lost a couple through the years! Many thanks.

Magnolia soulangeana is a hardy, deciduous plant and will tolerate our winters very well. Not sure why you lost the other ones, are you saying they died in the winter? Unless the plant is very small and sitting in a very cold, exposed, windy frost pocket, it's unlikely that cold will kill it.

PS it likes heavy clay soil but will make do with light lome ,but must be well drained, may be that is the reason you have lost them ,if they get waterloged it will not do them any good.
