Dear All,

Do I use ericaceous soil when planting my hydranger?

Thank you Derek for your reply

That would depend on whether it's a Hydrangea macrophylla, and whether you want blue flowers or pink, if you want blue, then by all means plant in ericaceous compost, but if you want pink , plant in ordinary compost, if you then get blue flowers, add a bit of ground limestone into the top couple of inches, this will turn them pink again, this is assuming that you want to grow them in pots, if you want to plant them in the garden, just plant them and see what colour the flowers are, if acid soil they will be blue, if alkaline they will be pink, but either can be altered, but only if they're H macrophylla, Derek.
