Looks like Tigridia. A bulb with flowers a bit like iris but shades of orange and yellow. They will need growing on for about three years before they flower, and they need protecting in winter, rather like dahlias. I left some planted up in a pot over winter in a sheltered spot but further north you would need to give them some protection. Best to keep them dry while dormant.

but I don't remember their seed pods being long and thin. I wonder if they are a crocosmia. My Lucifer starts with crinkly leaves like the leaves in the first photo.

Look like crocosmia. I have similar growth all around where I planted one a couple of years ago.

The pods are bulbs, they produce new ones on top of the old one each year. They multiply at a rate of knots, are not too fussy about growing conditions and require little attention so earn their keep.

I just realised this when I got up this morning and now I feel silly. (I've just grown lots of tigridias and they look just like the pic. sorry!)
