Hi Group, does anyone on here have problems with moles digging up the grass. I wish I could call it a lawn but at the moment it is so full of bare patches I am just about giving up on it. Any help appreciated. Thank you

Moles go where the earthworms and grubs go. The worms and grubs appear to be near the surface of your lawn. If you are watering your lawn stop so the food sources go deeper and the mole goes down with them bringing to an end the surface damage. Once the food depletes they move on. I'm not one to recommend lethal traps and poisons though other members may and I never had success with repellents when I had this occasional problem.

The only reliable way I've found to get rid moles is mole traps. You can get them at the hardware store. They work.

We don't have moles, here in the desert, but we do have pocket gophers. We use a Castor Bean extract based repellent, and the same is supposed to work for moles.

We bought some ultrasonic deterrents but found they had to be sunk in the lawn quite deeply and we didn't have a suitable tool for making a deep narrow hole through our rather hard subsoil. In the end the cat caught the moles...
The last time we had a molehill on the lawn I jumped up and down a lot near it to make some strong vibrations in the tunnel. Surprisingly the next molehill appeared right at the other end of the garden where it didn't matter.

Thanks everyone, I am willing to try all of this stating with the kindest one first.

My neighbour put moth balls down the tunnel and they left his garden and came into mine, I then put moth balls down in mine and they went back again! Coincidence maybe, after all they don't know boundaries.

That's what happens with deterrents. If you drop something down their hole, they just dig a new one and destroy your entire garden & the neighbors.

Steragram, jumping up and down in the garden can be of medical advantage too. I had a kidney stone which got stuck and was wreaking havoc upon me. The day before I was scheduled for surgery for removal followed by the usual uncomfortable recovery period I decided to go for broke and try to knock it loose. I walked out to the back garden and jumped up and down as hard as I could. Fifteen minutes later I passed it out. I called my urologist, went for imagery and the surgery scheduled for the next day was canceled. So this method is capable of ridding not only moles but kidney stones too!

Ouch!! Scary, but worth remembering, Loosestrife!

Good grief Loosestrife, desperate remedies! Glad it worked but it must have been painful!
It also works for slugs as long as you get them under your feet...

How do I say thanks?
