Dicentra spectabilis. I think it has been reclassified now, but I don't know the new name.

Hi, it's now called Lamprocapnos spectabilis, but is most often sold as Dicentra, which is now a synonym, Derek.

Thank you both and I hope this goes through. Were under some kind of cyber attack and servers are not responding well or at all as well as band widths are narrowing. Very bad if one is trying to do on line banking. Took me 6 try's to get the GOY site.m I will now press the " add comment" button....here goes....

Hi..around here it's known as
" Bleeding Heart"..thought you might like to know the common name..much more romantic..might even have been used in victorian times, if this plant has been around that long..

Hi Odaatpat, yes it was around in Victorian times, having been introduced in 1816, but wasn't around very long, and was reintroduced in 1846, by a plant collector called Robert Fortune, and has been a popular plant ever since, Derek.

Hi Odaatpat it's botanical name is Persicaria orientalis, hope this helps, Derek.

I planted “Love Lies Bleeding” aka Aramanthus last year. In the Victorian era where society had a veneer of modesty and propriety, the appropriate method of expressing passion was in the form of a code. This code referenced to flowers each of which had a special emotional meaning which was a taboo to express outright. These flowers were gathered together into a special nosegay which became the messenger of things not to be spoken out loud in a social setting. The Vic’s even published a code book of flowers and their special meaning and this book is a rare find indeed. Hmmm...I will make a nosegay of Persicaria and Aramanthus but I will not present it to a knowledgeable GOY member, if I do I’ll probably get clobbered:(

Hi Loosestrife2, that made me laugh, but I'm fairly sure you meant Amaranthus, rather than Aramnthus, soon done when you get a bit older, I sometimes make the mistake of jumping ahead to my next word, and forget to type the word I'm supposed to be typing, I have to read everything through, to make sure the words are in the right place, Derek.

I always regretted that I never took typing in high school...in any case, Aramnthus you say I wrote? Check my spelling again please. I cannot find Aramnthus anywhere in my comment. :)

Hi Loosestrife2, sorry I missed the 'a' out of Aramanthus, Derek.

In my world Derekm my view is that we are all perfect imperfections so no apologies are necessary.
