they do if they are houseplants, but ones in the garden will die in the frosts.

I know you will hate me for this, but, if it is warm enough they will survive. I had them for the first time last year, and they flowered all winter long, and are still in flower. But it is far too cold in Ireland for that to happen. The balsamic types die back - it needs to be even warmer, but I had lots of volunteers.

You live in the Azores, Wylie... so they may well survive there, but in UK and Ireland, they are half hardy annuals, meaning they keel over at the very first hint of frost...
