My Acer was quite large when I purchased it. It sits in full sun in a pot in the ground. Has been in since May, is it dying or will it come back in spring? I am based in UK

If you have neutral to acid, this plant would have been happy on its own in the ground. So your container would restrict the roots and it would be best in a semi-shaded situation. I suggest that you give the branches a scratch with your fingernail to see if it's still alive. If it is then, remove it from the container together with as much of the soil attached and replant it in a shaded situation if possible and see if it responds.
