Leather Jackets? I have heard it said that the larva of Daddy Long Legs will destroy a lawn, but I’ve never seen it happen before. Many of the lawns on the development I live on are now in this state. Many are totally gone. At first I thought it was the clay soil combined with the deluge. But then Rachel my daughter told me that last summer her lawns had literally been covered, house walls too, with Daddy Long Legs. I hadn’t realised how bad it had been as we were in Scotland, busy selling our home back then. If I had known, I would have advised nematode, which is what she is now applying. And now we will have to reseed. Do you think we should remove the dead turf, or reseed into the top of it? What a mess!

oh dear that is bad.

I'd probably just reseed. But at this time of year the starlings are usually ripping them out. See if there is a drench for killing them first otherwise they will just eat the new grass.

Thanks SBG…yes, we have a drench which she is going to apply this weekend. And then seed to go on top of what’s left. Thank you!
