I have a fantastic crop of brussels sprouts coming along and am hoping to leave some to pick for Christmas Day. However, I am worried that snow on them will ruin them. Do I need to cover them in some way?

They re extremely hardy Sue or they would not survive Scottish winters :-)

My father never covered his, he said that snow improved the taste of the sprout? I love them but hate picking them when its so cold.

My fingers were frozen and I only picked a dozen. Worth it though they tasted great!

Hi Sue, well we have never covered ours. Even when we lived on the croft in Aberdeenshire. I had to ferret around under the snow and frozen leaves yesterday to pick some. Ours will keep going through the winter along with the kale to give us a green veggie. I suspect the cold and snow will have done no good to the Swiss chard and the spinach beet though grrr
