I live in a very windy area in Scotland and would like to know what plants to use for pots at the side of the house? Looking for quiet hardy plants...certainly after the last winter! but happy to put in bedding plants and spring bulbs to ring the changes.... can you help?
Thank you

Could you move the pots away from the side of the house for the windiest part of the year? Otherwise i would avoid evergreens, especially conifers. Young tree heathers might be OK if there is plenty of sun, but they would need planting out eventually as they get quite large.

I think you're going to have to develop your own expertise Supergardeningqueen!. I'd suggest you use heavy pots and keep the plants low-growing or they'll be taking off. You'll need to keep them on the sheltered side of the house and keep on top of the watering, as the plants will tend to lose more moisture than normal. You'll find that adding water-retaining gel to the compost helps too.
Is planting a hedge to provide shelter a possibility? The plants there are at least anchored in the ground. There are tough plants may be able to cope.
I found this question that was asked a couple of year ago that may help.
