When to trim an Escallonia?

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't prune my escallonia wall shrub back end, and now I still haven't trimmed it back because there are a lot of birds flitting in and out.....is there anything I can do this year or shall I just wait til the coming back end, it's looking very overgrown right now but I know I will lose a lot of flower buds if I cut it back now...ah decisions decisions....

As it's evergreen you can prune it lightly anytime - but will lose flowering shoots - or just leave it till spring and give it a really good haircut then!
