Bamboo, thanks for reply,
but it is not vinca I am wanting.
Tugbrethil, It is a mallow, bought from a garden centre
years ago, and it grew side ways rather than up.with beautiful blue flowers with deeper blue veins.

Maybe French Mallow (Malva nicaeensis)? It is listed as an upright, short-lived perennial to 60 cm tall, but some of the pictures that I have found are prostrate. All of the other prostrate Mallows that I have found (Callirhoe, Sphaeralcea, etc.) run in the white, pink, wine-red, scarlet, and orange range.
I have also noticed that some of the Hardy Geraniums or Cranesbills (Geranium species) could easily be mistaken for mallows.

Do you know the botanical name for this? The only one that I'm finding is Malva sylvestris which grows much too tall for a ground cover!
