I have a laurel hedge and it has become woody at the bottom. I would like it to have dense foliage all the way to the ground but the branches are bare. Shoul I interplant with extra bushes or is there another way to solve this please?

The Laurels at Chirk Castle were cut to within 6 inches of the ground a few years back. They have now regrown to fine specimens with good branches all the way up. So you can prune your laurels as hard as you like to encourage the lower down buds to break and grow.
