I have 4 large plastic boxes and super compost inside, i would like to grow some potatoes but not sure where to start. Am i to late ? If not what variety would be best for beginner.

So long as your plastic boxes have drainage holes then you can use them to grow potatoes, now and the next couple of weeks is a good time to be planting them.

Yes I've drilled some holes.

Thanks for your help.

You could start with some first earlies as they crop faster than the later ones. Most of the ones in the garden centres should be OK, but decide whether you like waxy flesh or floury ones - it should say on the labels, but if it doesn't ask the staff. If you click on the letter P at the foot of this page and select Potatoes from the list of plants that appears you will find lots of helpful advice.
