hi all , i have been reading up on sweet peas & have decided to plant some seeds up for next year , is this a good method or is better to wait untill next year to start them off , cheers pete

hi thanks ,i have plated up a dozen each of 2 varietes i have been looking at the giant russian sweet peas on ebay but they are quite expensive to buy ,i wont take a chance on them untill next year i think ,cheers pete ps is the bosai acer yours in the picture

yeah it is a bonsai Acer palmatum dissectum - belongs to a relative though, sigh.

They can de sown anytime between October and March.
Definitely no earlier than October. Latest recommendations from the experts suggest November is the best time.
The best blooms will come from those sown before xmas.
No idea what Russian sweet peas are but the best sweet peas are the spencer varieties, available from many places

Do 50/50. Plant some now and they will flower earlier than ones planted in March/Apr. They will grow when the weather in mild and having root growth will spur their growth in spring. You should get a good long season out of them doing that.
