Patience rewarded.

I have a small collection being built up this year, of species paeonies.
One, P. japonica, arrived in early February with a small bud:
12th. March:
I have watched with increasing impatience as the little bud seemed to sit still and unfurled painfully slowly. This morning I was rewarded:
It is a small peony about 2ft, so should be easy to find a shadier slot for it. In my eyes it is far more beautiful than the hybrids. I love its simplicity.

How lovely - and how much better to grow it from small beginnings than fully formed. Exciting!

Thank you all for your kind comments. The flower and plant are not big but have impact, I think.

Lovely. I'm glad it didn't get frosted. Perhaps it is a very hardy one.
