Aquilegia 'Alaska' - Granny's Bonnets

Granny's Bonnet or Columbine. A robust, colourful and showy perennial, originally bred in the USA, with elegantly divided, lobed leaves. Masses of large white flowers, with backward pointing spurs, are freely produced in spring.

Any good, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade.

Ht 55-60cm. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.

All the aquilegias do their own thing. They tend to self seed, so you might find yourself weeding them out, but they are very pretty and flower for a long period during May-July, after which they die back and disappear over the winter. This one is in the shade garden in front of the shed, but these plants will pop up all over the garden in various colours and forms. If you don't want them to self seed...remove the spent flower stems before the seeds form.
