Thanks all for the comments. Yes, they are so commonly used because they don't need very much water.

Ooops!!!
I'm pretty sure you are right but... I have to ask, because mine looked dry and was dieing with short watering.
Since I've been watering it everyday it went back to green and its blooming again.

In pots they do need water and fertilizer regularly. In the ground they just need a little water and fertilizer.
