Normally, yes, Andy! :( It's often depends on the individual bulbs; one bulb may flower twice in year but most only once. :(

I don't really know what makes the difference but as I've had up to more than a 100 pots of bulbs it's never bothered me. It might possibly be down to growing them in relatively small pots. My bulbs are normally grown in 6" pots as I don't have room for bigger pots. I've, more or less, stopped growing on the offsets the bulbs produce each year; to avoid recreating the enormous number of plants I now throw away the offsets. :(
