Anthurium 'Lazarz'

Anthurium 'Lazarz' (Anthurium 'Lazarz')

I purchased this very large-leafed Anthurium in the summer of 2002. It was a small plant...now it stands (including pot) more than 6 feet / 2 meters tall. It has a bright maroon to purple flower...however, it's grown for its very large ornamental leaves. Photo taken Nov. 1 2009.

Pitta:

This Anthurium hybrid was developed for the daughter of the owner of the large nursery, Rancho Soledad in Northern San Diego County where it was purchased it. In the ground this Anthurium will probably grow to 8 - 10 feet / 2.4 - 3 meters tall in a shady/wind protected area.

I haven't seen this hybrid available in many years. It used to be sold by Rancho Soledad and was developed by the Daughter of the owner who passed-away a few years back.

I'm not sure if the daughter (I can't remember her name) runs the nursery now. I just remember talking to in summer of 2002 and she said she hybridized this Anthurium.

I would guess it could grow up there. It's a tough, tolerant of drought and cool weather. Not sure what the hardiness rating is, though. It most likely could take it below freezing for a short while. It's never been tested in my yard because I never get such cold temps.
