Erythrina crista-galli - Cockspur Coral Tree (Erythrina crista-galli - Cockspur Coral Tree)

Cockspur Coral Tree growing and blooming at Point Loma, San Diego, CA. Unfortunately, not the clearest photo due to sun angle. Posted for Meanie. Photo taken May 28, 2010.

Hey! That looks just like my place!! An Erythrina, and a Strelitzia.
Come to think of it, my Erythrina is maybe a wee bit smaller and I can't recall my Strelitzia ever flowering!!!!

Thanks for the photo. I have a friend who thinks that the Erythrina would make a great Bonsai project.

Great! : > )

My observation is that Erythrina species grow much faster and bloom more prolifically when planted in the ground...as you can tell by this fairly small tree.

I'll post a pic of the larger one around the corner from my house...as it's full of buds now, even though about 5 - 10 feet was cut off the top. It would have been blooming months ago, if it hadn't been hacked back drastically.
