King Palms - Archontophoenix cunninghamiana and large Ficus trees (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, Ficus benjamina)

This section of the San Diego Zoo has many wild King Palms and giant Ficus trees species (looks like mostly Ficus benjamina - Weeping fig)

I bet Andy, that the Zoo also thought F. bengalensis for decades "Doesn't grow" in California. Or,banyon. Fullerton has one like a melting candle. Others,..one here and one there. But NOW,they seem to take off in soucal.

There's some nice F. benghalensis growing at the SD Zoo. I just saw the F. benghalensis at Fullerton Arboretum. It looks very good (I'll post a photo). The largest known F. benghalensis in Ca. is in a park in the San Dimas area. It was about 60' tall 25 years ago. I'm guessing it's much larger now.

I just sold my 8 year old F benghalensis about two months ago. It was getting much too large for the pot. It now has a good home in northern San Diego County on 2.5 acres.
