Monstera deliciosa - Split-leaf-Philodendron, Mexican Breadfruit

Monstera deliciosa - Split-leaf-Philodendron, Mexican Breadfruit (Monstera deliciosa - Split-leaf-Philodendron, Mexican Breadfruit)

My Split-leaf-Philodendron fruits will hopefully be ripening in the next couple of months. It is a very sweet pineapple-tasting fruit. Photo taken Jan. 17, 2012.

Homebird:

It's a common landscape plant here. I think it'll only produce fruit when grown in the ground.

I didn't know these were edible...

Yes, it sure is...it has to be ripe, though. The fruit smells and taste just like pineapple.

Ah...that's interesting. My mom has one of these but in a pot so....no fruit for us then.

It's a really hardy plant in the ground. Many people grow this vine in many parts of the California where there's frost every year. It's really tough to cold especially if grown under eaves or under trees. It can grow very large and fast if given lots of water and fertilizer.
