Salvia discolor (Salvia discolor)

Bit of a crap photo, but I'm just chuffed that my Blackcurrant Sage is in bloom!
It has been outdoors for about three weeks now, although it does get put in the garage for cold nights.

Mine is flowering in the greenhouse but the early flowers are not looking as the later ones outside.

It seems more of a black (as opposed to a very dark purple) now that it is established.

4 Apr, 2012

Rather incredible smell isn't it Amy!

4 Apr, 2012

i do like this one Meanie..very nice plant that, i use them to, didn't the Passiflora bogotensis tempt you then...

4 Apr, 2012

oh that is fabulous!!! so when will your garden be open to the public???

4 Apr, 2012

Haha! Thought that you'd like that!

Mine were free from a UK source SL! I will be buying from SWT, as I get the impression that his seed is reliably fresh.
No more Passiflora - I have the P.alata to master yet!

i like that first one ~ its like a little lantern!!

4 Apr, 2012

That's fantastic. I love it !

4 Apr, 2012

Thanks Hywel!

They're a part of my move towards plants that grow from bulbs or tubers Sticki.

5 Apr, 2012

because you will now have room to store the bulbs and tubers??

its a fantastic plant anyway! well worth it however it grows!

5 Apr, 2012

Spot on Sticki - the cellar!!

5 Apr, 2012

thats what i was thinking, just dont forget the cat!!!

5 Apr, 2012

I can see her getting shut in down there!!

5 Apr, 2012

cat flap on the cellar door?

i used to live in a house with a cellar [loved that house, wish i was still there] and we got 2 mice per year.

5 Apr, 2012

How many cats?

5 Apr, 2012

none!!!
we had a dog but i dont think she went in the cellar

5 Apr, 2012

At my old house (rather rural) my cat dropped four in an hour at my feet! Reckon she thought she was clever!!

5 Apr, 2012

thats funny!!!

can just see them all lined up for mouse pie ~ like a cartoon!

when i say we had 2 a year, i think that would be we saw 2 a year ~ im sure there would have been more!?

5 Apr, 2012

Mice were just for when she had a couple of minutes to spare - the real stuff happened at night with the bunnies!

5 Apr, 2012

oh no!!! one bunny [better not go into detail] arrived here one day ~ i couldnt believe my small cat could have got hold of it ~ she was only young then; so I put bunny back in the wood ~ guess what ~ it arrived back again in the garden!!

i better not give details of the mice either that she catches!

5 Apr, 2012

Sage could take a buck rabbit as big as her too! Had a stoat too one night!

5 Apr, 2012

tough as tigers!!!

my cat seems to have taken to the lazy life recently and very demanding she is too!!

5 Apr, 2012

Mine too, but she is seventeen now.

I'm on a hunt too tonight - looking for seeds for this..........

5 Apr, 2012

i had an image of you out on the tiles!!!

thats a huge plant!!!

i take it you will have a very large garden?

5 Apr, 2012

Almost teetotal nowadays!

It is rather large, but more importantly fairly hardy.

5 Apr, 2012

i meant as a cat prowling not drinking!!!

be instead of a tree then??

5 Apr, 2012

Ah - nope I'm monogamous too (getting boring as I get older!)

It'll certainly be a feature plant!

5 Apr, 2012

i wouldnt know ~ im not getting older!!!????

it will most certainly feature!!!

do you have a tree fern?

5 Apr, 2012

Tree fern as in Dicksonia antartica? No - the risk of losing one to the cold and wet puts me off! I will inherit a Trachycarpus though.

5 Apr, 2012

very nice!

same feelings about tree ferns, love them but too scared to lose all that money!

i had to google trachycarpus ~ it sounds like a dinosaur!!

5 Apr, 2012

I believe that it's almost that old Sticki. As in it was around back in that age pretty much as we know it today.

5 Apr, 2012

Amazing.
I have one of those ginko trees, is it true that they are also primitive?

5 Apr, 2012

The oldest known tree species I believe..............

5 Apr, 2012

Hope I'm not the one that kills it then!

6 Apr, 2012

'twould be a miracle on the scale of the second coming I reckon!

6 Apr, 2012

a miracle that i did or didnt kill it???

6 Apr, 2012

If you did!!!

6 Apr, 2012

d'you reckon?
well i dont think i will bet on it!!!

day off today?

6 Apr, 2012

Boxing stuff up!!

6 Apr, 2012

should keep you out of mischief!!!

you do not want to know how many boxes of stuff i had for the kitchen when we moved here!!! [ i lost count] also books!!!

6 Apr, 2012

Had the same trouble with books!
To make matters worse, I rescued a full set of Encyclopedia Brittanica from the bin the other day - all 29 volumes!

6 Apr, 2012

they were in the news recently ~ they are not printing anymore so maybe you have a valuable library!!!!

good thing moving doesnt have weight restrictions! are you having people to do the moving for you?

6 Apr, 2012

Hope all goes well for the move. You have some unusual plants Meanie. When we moved a few yers ago we had a lot of pots with plants in....fortunately the removal people had a small van that they put them all in for us with the garage stuff. The other van came later when the keys were swapped and everything had been exchanged. It always feels good when it's all over and the boxes are in.....cup of tea time and fish and chips???? Good luck anyway.

6 Apr, 2012

Sticki - they were printed in 1979 and in mint condition!
I'll shift my stuff myself. Got loads in my mates warehouse already as that is just 200 metres away from my new house - means that I can just wheel a couple of boxes up at a time over a week or two. I started moving in today when I dropped off 600litres of vermiculite that I scored off Freecycle!!

Linda - The plants will be a pain as there are so many! It'll be Chilli con Carne for tea as I have some in the freezer all ready for the move!

6 Apr, 2012

That's brilliant! Glad you rescued them, i love technology, Internet and camera but I really love books too.

I was relieved we had help to move but sounds like you are more than half way there, hope it goes smoothly.

No surprise that garden things get moved in first!

6 Apr, 2012

Can't beat books! These have hardly been touched and they were going in the bin - had to have 'em.
Not having to move the stuff from upstairs is a help! And having the use of space in the warehouse means that I can go get boxes as I'm ready to unpack them, rather than tripping over them.

6 Apr, 2012

So long as they have nice big labels on them you will be fine!

I'm very impressed tea is already sorted! That will of course be the worlds best chilli con Carne?

6 Apr, 2012

Absolutely - the worlds best!
Made sense, as the freezer has to be turned off anyway!

6 Apr, 2012

will you be any nearer to some good food shops?

6 Apr, 2012

Closer to my butcher (reminds me, must get his key cut) but further from everything else.............

6 Apr, 2012

the butcher has a key to your house? does he come and fill the fridge?

6 Apr, 2012

He delivers, so needs a key if I'm not in! I prefer to go in to the shop, but it's handy if I lack the time!

6 Apr, 2012

amazing!! all sorted then!!!

7 Apr, 2012

What a service from your butcher Meanie. Chilli sounds good....Seems as though you have everything in hand ready to move. It's such a tiring day when you do move so as long as the bed is made up so that you can have a sleep or you have a sleeping bag.....there's always the next day to do more sorting out.

8 Apr, 2012

Linda - I once left him the roasting tin on the table all prepped and the oven programmed leaving him instructions to put it in the oven and press go!!

I would be getting stressy now if it weren't for the use of Daves warehouse.

8 Apr, 2012

So the butcher cooks for you too! Now that is service!

8 Apr, 2012

He will certainly press START for me!!

8 Apr, 2012

Oh, that's not cooking??

Only being naughty, that's how OH thinks!!

8 Apr, 2012

Certainly not cooking!

8 Apr, 2012

;0))))

10 Apr, 2012

So what's on order for today?

10 Apr, 2012

Nowt - I'm working my way through the freezer!
