This very common shrub blooms heavily all year here in San Diego, CA. Photo taken in Balboa Park on Dec. 17, 2013.

I think L. nepetifolia is much hardier.
This one can grow pretty tall and live a long time.

Never grown this one, but L.nepetifolia did quite well for me a couple of years ago.
