.When there were lots of them in our garden the males grunted/huffed and bulldozed each other. I suppose the ladies preference is the most 'pushy' male. Sometimes they, circled in the border too, making huffing noises. Mating and food are the main drivers of hedgehog affairs. So lovely for you to have so many prickly guests Lindak.

They grunt a lot and the smallest is the most pushiest and bossiest of them all.

How lovely to have these in your garden. We used to have them in a previous garden many years ago. One of my teenage daughters went out the front door one evening and quickly ran back, white-faced, saying there was someone in the garden doing 'heavy breathing' - she took some convincing that it was safe to go out :)

the problem today is that most gardens have fences and the hedgehogs need about 12 gardens to wander and survive. I think that all fences should have a small hole in so that the hogs can wander through. We have taken the wildlife spaces up with our homes and therefore we should do something to help them out. Hedgehog highways.......
