Achlys triphylla
Grand cover in moist and shady side of our forest
It is native to this region.
The flower stalks rise above their leafy layer directly from the rhizome
Fresh leaves have little or no fragrance but I can bring them in when they start to fade, hang them in the kitchen and enjoy their smell for weeks. I need only 3-4leafs and in the same time they repel mosquitoes and other unwanted insects in the house.
The vanilla scent is caused by the presence of natural coumarin ( blood-thinning agent). Native people collected them for many medicinal uses.
