Coffee coming along.

I bought one tiny coffee plant few weeks ago at our local "hardware store" ....just for the curiosity. Yours is getting "big" Is it in ground?

Yes its in ground. I had it Klahanie in another spot where it grew so slow for 4 years.This spring I moved it into more sun.
My yard's soils drain TOO well. All my decades of churning it up means I either have to mulch it to death or water more..I do both now to make sure years are not wasted.
This Klahanie was one of those just sprouted seedlings...and to boot,it was in the discount bin for $1. Needed help.
I have grown them indoors. If I had with this one,it probably would be 3' and flowering by now. Indoors- fast growers. Look great too.

I love its shining leaves and think if it still will be there next time I will buy another one. It is in 4" pot.
Yours certainly looks good in the spot you have it Stan.
The wind is hauling outside but the power is on. There will be lots of debris to pick up when its gone.

They make lovely house plants too. I used to have one several years ago.

I will have to treat it as a house plant Hywel. It will not survive the winter here on Vancouver Island. I will keep it outside during summer and bring it in October. I already have 2 lime trees (I grew from pits) and one lemon tree which had dozen of lemons last year but none this year :-(

Your coffee tree looks flawless. They love acidic soil!

I had one in the ground for many years. It always brown-tips here because of the hard water. It always bloomed and produced tons of coffee cherries. It has been slowly dying over the last two years...and this year I cut it down after having it for 17 years. The drought took its toll on the tree, unfortunately! :>( It was around 9' tall.

The winter forecast is warmer for soucal...and they don't know what for us.
Maybe you could have cut it to a stump and let it sprout? Start over?
Mulch!..I haven't tossed a leaf away this fall.

It's been really hot the last 4 days...mid to upper 90's. Today it appears some subtropical moisture is moving in right now. I hope it rains!

I did cut my coffee tree to the stump. I think it's dead, though. I'll leave the stump until next spring. There's many seeds that fell in the ground below. Every year (when we had rains) coffee seedlings would pop up every winter. I would give them away. I just saw a friend's seedling (I gave him)...it's 7' feet tall now and beautiful! (it's probably 3 or 4 years old)

How's your coffee tree doing?

Ok..some slug ate a few holes in the leafs. It had no frost or rot from the winter. Still a slow grower over all. I know if I had it in a warmer exposure it would pick up speed...but those areas are for the dry tropicals.
No real hurry.
A local florist still has Croton Petra's - a few years old now. They go out all day...and then in at night.
If I didnt have stairs. I might try "Mammy" again. I see them at Walmart for even less then HD.

That's good it's still hanging in there. I know it's not a fast grower. In the ground it may grow a little faster, though.

My Mammy is growing very well since I transplanted it and gave it some steer manure. My larger 'Angel Wing' croon is still coming back from the severe spider mite problems of last summer. I looked a pic from March of 2016. It looked full and beautiful! I think I need to transplant it into a much larger container. I may move my mammy to the front yard and put the angel wing in the back in more sun and heat. I'll see if it's better for both. :>))

I've seen this blog before. It has a lot of information. I've seen some really nice crotons outside here. Most of the time they're planted in semi-shade. Too much sun they burn. Crotons love a lot of water, also.
