Hi I am designing an Oriental style garden and I am wanting to achieve the lumpy mounded grass look. I zoysia grass the best for this and are there superior varieties to get the best effects?

The picture reminds me of the Azorella trifurcata that we grow, Georgie. A good, hardy groundcover that can be walked on and produces amazing humps. Prehaps slightly slow to spread over a large area.

If you want to go down a different route Georgie I can recommend a wonderful book that I was lucky enough to pick up in my local Oxfam - Moss Gardening by George Schenk. It's quite expensive on Amazon but maybe the local library could source it for you.

There are sections on the amazing moss gardens in Japan and other countries with lists of the mosses generally used to achieve the effect you are after. Alternatively if you just google Moss gardening you get a lot of helpful hits.

I love working with mosses, much easier to care for than grass!

How do I say thanks?
