Patrick made me this for Christmas from some spalted maple from our firewood logs, black walnut and birch. The ball on the top is part of a banksia cone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksia) from Australia.

We had some trouble at Customs when we brought the cone back from the UK, but they finally figured it had no seeds and was completely dry, and posed no danger. It's used a lot by woodturners.
