I had a good length of about 6 feet of cucumber vine growing and something ate through it at about 4 feet, now my question is can i somehow save the two feet of vine remaining by placing in water to wait for roots, or planting in soil to see if it takes root or any advice

my cucumber and tomato plants have a aneamic colour what could be causing this
I woudn't of thought it would work as such a large piece would wilt and die before it has a chance of rooting. They do get mildew too, so siting in soil waiting for roots to form would incourage mildew and possible infect the healthy living half.
Sorry
