have been offered some bamboo, but need to dig it out. is there anything I need to do,watch out for?
dont wnt to ruin the bamboo or the garden?

Not sure, sorry...I've never dug one up. Good luck with it Mookins, I'm sure someone on here will know how to do it :)

acht you are to far away mooks or I would have came and dug it for you , free Bamboo sounds great, as much root as you can take with it I suppose .

take a sharp saw/breadknife as well as a spade rather than a fork. then dig around a clump and hack the roots with the saw. a spade will also cut through roots more easily.
do you know which species it is. ask the donor how long they have had it to get some idea of how fast it has grown and spread. if vigorous put in a pot as suggested and either have it on the patio or dig a hole and plant it in the pot.

thanks for the tips everyone, am hopefully going early next week to dig some up from a fellow freecycler, Dont know what type it is will post a pic when ive got some home. Mac you still have time to travel down and help me....:o)

Oooh....plant it in a big pot Mookins, or you risk it taking over your garden! Bamboos are great feature plants, and do well in containers, but they can be very invasive...
