I have had dahlias in pots this year, want to put them into the garden next year, can I just plonk the whole dahlia tuber in the ground in the spring?

Some people like to keep them under cover during the winter in a greenhouse etc. Then once they start to grow they can be transplanted.
I usually lift some and leave some in the ground. It is the very damp they dont like.

You can also take cuttings of your favourites...when they start to shoot 3-4" long in spring...cut the shoot off, preferably with a little slither of tuber attached and pot it up...simple...:>)
