Bamboo for deep shade?
By Weatherwise

I have a very shady spot in the garden where nothing wants to grow. What I would really like to fill the space with is a bamboo in a container. Most bamboos like partial shade but does anyone know of any that will put up with practically no sunlight at all? Thanks.

thanks! Fairly small area against a brick wall about 8ft x 8ft. Will need regular watering!

For shrubs, look at Box, some Elaeagnus varieties (large shrub), Ruscus, Sarcococca, Symphoricarpos. Perennials: Anemone, Lamium, Saxifraga umbrosa, Ferns: Asplenium, Polypodium. These all tolerate dry shade. There's a whole other list for moister shade though...

I have 3 bamboos in deep shade under the beech tree but I cant remember their names. I will take pictures soon and then that might give you some ideas. they have been there for 11 years now.

No, there aren't any bamboos that will tolerate that situation. There are other things that might grow there though - how big is the area and is it dry as well as shady?
