When should Crocus Sativus be planted?
By Claireinbude

Listening to the radio yesterday, someone was talking about the saffron Crocus and I thought I'd like to try growing some. When should I be looking for and planting the bulbs?
I live in North Cornwall.
Thanks.

Crocus sativus is in flower/going over now Claire, so no point in planting just at the moment. Buy and plant some as early as possible
next summer.
They are not easy to come by so go to a reputable dealer. The ones that come out of Holland are usually of poor quality if they are even C. sativus; they more often come up as C. speciosus.
C. sativus like a hot, dry summer dormancy so is best grown in a pot that can be put in the greenhouse in summer.
