In theory, they are perennial but keeping for a second year is a waste of time as Drc726 has.

I chopped my wallflowers right back after flowering last year to the tiny green shoots at the base - I had an even better display this year, and have chopped them down again this year. I bought them as a bunch of bare roots so not 100% sure what type they are. If you see tiny green growth right at the bottom, I would cut them down to this to see what happens .. unless you need the space you have nothing to lose.

I presume you dont mean Perennial Wallflowers Erysimum? The one I think you mean is treated as a biennial sow in July plant in place in October to flower next year.
