how do I look after phlox I bought some recently but the leaves are looking a bit rusty now. Is it just the colder weather. If I cut it down to almost nothing and plant itwill it grow next year if I plant it.

Is this Phlox paniculata? They are hardy plants, so plant them in your garden, and cut them back a bit. Leave some growth as they're so new. They die back in the winter and should shoot from the base in the spring, when you'll be able to cut off the remains of the old stems. I'd mulch round the plants with home-made compost, too.
