Hello every one. I have a rose shrub that i want to plant up in a large pot. Should i use john innes compost on its own or would it be ok to mix it with my own garden compost? all advice mostly appreciated.

It will help to mix grit (I use B&Q 10mm gravel for large pots) and vermiculite in with your mixture Rohima, and put your pots up on pot feet or some bricks so it can drain. Roses dont like sodden wet feet! Saying that, water til you see it draining out of the bottom in dryer weather

Yes, you can mix in some compost too. Make sure that you put the pot in its position before filling with compost as it will be very heavy afterwards.
