Can I plant out a hydrangea paniculata vanille fraise and a peony out in my borders or should I wait till threat of frosts is gone? Both these have been overwintered in cold frame and I put them out daily but back in cold frame especially as we've had some frosty mornings. Shall I wait another month? Any advice gratefully received.

Thank you for your advice. I’ve spent my day off in the garden and will plant them out over the weekend.

I'd plant them both out to be honest and if worried about frosts cover them.
Both are hardy even in very severe frosts.
Remember to plant the paeony at the same depth it is in the pot. has it got any buds visible yet? If not it will probably flower next year.

Thank you Seaburngirl for the peony tip!

I would plant them out now but perhaps throw some fleece or old newspaper joined up into a larger sheet if frosts are forcast; and remove in the daytime. The hydrangea would re-shoot if left uncovered and frosted but the peony would still be tender.
