Hi folks, I have heard that a garlic spray on my Hostas will greatly help with my slug problem. Can anyone confirm if there's any truth in this?

I tried it a great while (purchased at the GC) ago ....the smell kept both the slugs and me away from the hosta.

Garlic spray was given as a control to keep lily beetles away as well. I made some and used on my tree lilies this year to try to keep red lily beetle away and it seemed to work. I found just one but that was after flowering which wasn't so bad. I just bought frozen crushed garlic from supermarket and made up myself. I feel like Loosestrife about the smell but I had the pleasure of the lilies for a long time through summer and with their leaves too. This was recipe found online but there are loads more.
To make it use a couple of cloves crushed or finely chopped, leave to diffuse in boiling water for five minutes, then filter ( the pulp will block the sprayer) into a spray bottle. Add washing up liquid, then top up with water. Keep the pulp in a sealed jar to use next time, you’ll get four or five uses from one pulp.
( I use new each time as the frozen is so cheap.)

lots of gardening experts swear by it. Not tried it myself.
