I'd like to change a redundant flower bed into a very small vegitable plot.Is it too late to plant anything now? And if so what can I plant?

I'm sure you can still try courgettes - I sprouted mine between moist paper towels in a plastic container in the airing cupboard, takes about 3 days for the root to emerge. Then transplant into mid-sized pots (5 inches across) and grow on in a coldframe or on a windowsill until it has at least 4 leaves (the 2 baby leaves and 2 'spikey' leaves) before transplanting into a sunny spot in the garden. They grow really fast so are fun. You can do cucumbers the same way.
Also beans are still do-able! I pre-sprout them too as above.
Lettuce will be fine now you garden centre should have some fairly well-grown veg plants on sale.
Enjoy :-)
