Caring for my basil plant

I was told recently that I should let my basil wilt before I water it to get the best flavour. I’ve no idea if that’s true but I’ve been letting it wilt anyway.
At the weekend I obviously didn’t have enough to do and my curiosity got the better of me. I decided to make my second stop-frame animation – My first is of the work I did on my little patch earlier this year and is in my garden facelift blog entry from May.
Anyway, here’s how my wilted basil reacted to water over about 4 hours last Sunday; you can tell when it goes dark too :o)

Me too Spritz! I left it for quite a few days and was worried it might not recover - tough love works.
I'm sure if my plants could talk they'd all claim to be experimental :o)

I hadn't heard about wilting basil for flavour.I buy a basil plant in March from the local supermarket and then pot it into welldrained compost and it goes on until we go away in January then it has to die!! Unfortunately this last week it had greenfly ,I sprayed it and am not too sure how long to leave it before picking again,so I am going to leave it for a week at least.
